At the virtual workshop on 2 Nov 2023, Experts shared important factors to consider while establishing a scope for a future standardized analytical method on pesticide residues in herbs and spices. To support international trade, the project will focus on pesticides banned in other parts of the world while still in use in the SEA region and developing countries. A survey among stakeholders from different sectors indicated a priority for analyzing organophosphates, glyphosate, carbamates, and ethylene oxide. Based on the top traded commodities in Asia, proposed representative matrices are black pepper (Piper nigrum), Paprika & Chilies (Capsicum annuum), Turmeric & Ginger (Curcuma longa & Zingiber officinale), Garlic & Onion, and Vanilla.
This project aims to develop and validate a multiresidue analysis method for simple, simultaneous, sensitive and rapid determination of pesticide residues in herbs and spices.
We look forward to working with a wide range of stakeholders including regulators, industry, contract research organizations, private laboratories – all who have a stake in the future of official methods for pesticide residue analysis in herbs and spices. With your support, we will start creating a globally recognized and standardized AOAC Official Method that supports a harmonized approach in the region and beyond.
